Singapore In Pictures

The following are a series of pictures that I took on a trip to Singapore, last Sunday through Wednesday. I went to Singapore to get a new visa, a chore which turned out not to be necessary. But the trip to Aceh was an incredible break from the realities Aceh. A city of clean, easy-to-wipe surfaces.

It as a great break, a break of bird parks, ethnic enclaves, and friends from Cornell. It was a place I am not sure I want to go back to. But wonderful for three days.

Singapore is a fine city. Except when it comes to carrying durians on the MRT. That only brings about massive social stigma.

Me, sopping wet at the Jurong Bird Park, after being caught in a thunderstorm. Thank goodness there was a sign informing me that this was part of the "true conditions of a natural rainforest". Of course, they do recreate them in the "birds of Southeast Asia building" at 12 noon for those who were not as lucky as me.

Bird from the Jurong Bird, which I visited on Sunday. This place is amazing. And this picture was taken without a zoom.

Me at the beach at Sentosa Island, Singpore's playground.

Little India. I am thinking of backpacking in India after my contract ends here, so in April. Anyone interested in coming? Maybe for around a month.

Chinatown. Singapore gave me the impression of a theme park. You can take the MRT from Chinatown (all Chinese people and red souvenirs) to Little India (all Indian people with bangle and bead souvenirs) to Sentosa Island (the island of fun and beaches-- shell souvenirs). This is exactly what I did on Saturday.

Charlie, the PSSA expert, and Ellen, the information and grants lady, on the MRT. Both were there with me to get visas. The MRT, or the Singapore Subway, was a phenominal treat.

Ben, a friend from Cornell studying abroad in Singapore, with Durian Es Kacang or Iced Beans with Durian Sauce. I think he managed one bite, and I didn't risk even one.
